It’s that special time of the year once again! No not hurricane season silly, but the fall anime season! I swear every single season I say the same stupid sentence, “This is going to the best season ever!” It never is, of course. But… This season… Is going to be the best season ever! Like the Summer 2011 post, I’ll be updating this with any new trailers or news pertaining to shows Moe Monster may be interested in.
| 09-30Final Update!
I had planned to take this time to list where shows may be simulcasted, or streamed anywhere, but once again the creators and the various streaming avenues are shown to be scrambling around. Crunchyroll in particular, doesn’t even have it’s Fall 2011 season page set up yet, even thought it has begun. NicoNico also hasn’t revealed their full Fall 2011 lineup. If the last couple seasons are any indication, deals will be made weeks into the season. Regardless, I’m sure we’ll all find ways to watch what we want. Anyway, here are a couple lists that you may find useful. First here’s Anime News Network’s list of Fall 2011 shows. Here’s a list from TVTropes.org. All the news here was from ANN, Crunchyroll, and some various other news blogs. |

| 09-27Crunchy Roll has begun streaming Ika Musume for those of you rich people. Another Working’!! character trailer has been released, this one featuring the mastermind Souma and the squinty samurai Yachiyo. Finally the Fate/Zero people have released their 6th (out of 7) promo before the start of the series. |
| 09-24Some Fate/Zero news: It looks like Niconico will be releasing it as a free/streaming title with various subtitles. I’m sorry to say Pidgin is not one. They (Japanese) finally created a Bakuman 2 official site on NHK, where a trailer can be found. |
| 09-20This just in.. there’s been an Ika Musume 30-second Invasion Warning released for TV Tokyo! |
| 09-17Number 5/7 of Fate/Zero PV’s released on the official site. The 3rd Working’!! character promo now streaming here, and featuring Satou and an unenthusiatic Kyouko. In some Ika news, it’s been reported that the voice of Ika, Hisako Kanemoto, will be singing the ending theme. |
|
09-16The fifth promo video of Persona 4 The Animation can be found playing on a television set here. |
| 09-14An upskirt peak of Maken-Ki! released in PV form here. There’s a new solid Un-Go television ad being streamed on the official site here. Also there’s a newer C3 (C cube) promo that can be found on the Starchild site. |

I have fond memories of Ika and friends. Their antics provided many giggles and at least one guffaw per episode. Its skit-like nature sometimes lead to unevenness but at worst this show never dipped below watchable. No doubt they’ve kept the working formula from season one which makes watching this a no-brainer. If you dig silly, lighthearted, sometimes heartwarming comedy I can’t recommend this enough. There’s still time to marathon season one if you’re on the fence. Shit, I forgot to make a squid pun.![]() |
This is a Moe Monster favorite. My sole reason for watching the first season (from the beginning) was the mermaid show, Seto no Hanayome (My Bride is a Mermaid), which had some great comedic moments. I figured anoher "sea creature" show couldn’t possibly be that bad. Season one ended up being one of my favorite series ever. If this sequal is 1/2 as good, I’ll be happy as a pig in squiddin’ shit.![]() |

This was my favorite show about mangaka until Masako stole my heart in Usagi Drop. Even though Ashirogi Muto loses out to a minor character in a vastly superior show, Bakuman is still my favorite zombie show in recent memory. No, not like High School of the Dead, but a zombie show you start up and turns you into one of mindless undead. My favorite thing about these kind of shows, is that while I’m working at my desk and/or on the computer, I can listen to them and glance over during the 24-minute running time and never miss anything. Thank you Bakuman 2 in advance for a wonderful season of non-importance. I’ll be reviewing this, but expect rather random reviews as half the time I don’t know what happened. ![]() |
I dropped Bakuman just one episode away from the end. There wasn’t enough conflict or real life to hold my interest. When the rock star nemesis was introduced it was just too much for me. Essentially, Bakuman is a shounen fighting series using manga instead of special attacks and arbitrary competitions in place of power levels. Pass. ![]() |

My second favorite of the returning shows. While not as mind-numbing or easily "unseen" as Bakuman was, Working!! served some decent plot development, covered in whacky slice-of-life like comedy and featuring a side of kinda’ memorable characters. I’m gonna’ try reviewing this, but I’ll be straight; similar to my dislike of Yukko during the first half of Nichijou, I had a similar distaste for Yamada while watching the first season of Working!!. Enjoyed the show, hated her. Who else wanted Popura to mispronounce their name?![]() |
Y’know, at first I didn’t think I was going to partake in a second helping of Working!! The first plate didn’t quite satisfy me or give me anything I hadn’t seen before. Upon further reflection I don’t have a really good reason not to watch since at the very least it’ll be a decent way to kill a little time. Not going weekly though. Marathon or bust. Too much nothing happens to wait 7 days for.![]() |

I have no idea what this show is about. From the trailer it looks like a fairly generic sci-fi action series; special powers, bizarre character designs, semi-dystopia, etc. If it falls closer to Darker Than Black or Daughter of Twenty Faces than it does to Deadman Wonderland I’ll be pretty satisfied. Also, if the chick who looks like Marvel’s Domino could slip a nip that’d be great.![]() |
I need some good solid science fiction, out of the prison and overtly heterosexual. This looks like it could be really really interesting or so incredibly boring. The premise sounds good enough for a first impression at the very least. ![]() |

I enjoyed The Last Exile and like Blood-C this past summer I’ll give it a shot based on the franchise’s merit. Fate/Zero I could see myself watching if starved for action, although at this point I’d probably prefer watching Danny Choo’s Saber.
I’ll try to give some other shows a shot as well including Guilty Crown, the short Strike Witches look-a-like and moe meccha Busou Shinki Moon Angel, and something to satisfy my low-brow needs. Best season ever? Oh yes, most definitely! There are also the usual adornments of OVAs and OADs, including Usagi Drop, Deadman Wonderland and Kimi ni Todoke specials released with Blu-Ray versions. On a related note, if anyone is crazy about any particular new title, let us know and we’ll give it a look. |
It feels like slim pickings for me this coming Fall season. Of the big sequels being released I’m only looking forward to Ika Musume. The Last Exile will be pretty and atmospheric I’m sure but the first one did so little with the story that I’m not hopeful. The Fate franchise hasn’t moved me in any of its forms and who knows what’s going on with Lupin III.
In terms of the newcomers things look pretty standard overall. Mirai Nikki and Coppelion have potential but I’m as easily turned off by illogical sci-fi as I am by spray tans and Narutards so we’ll see. The love folks have for the Persona video game series has made me curious about the anime. The track record video game based anime has made me curious about my sanity for considering one. As a man with only one friend Boku Wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai made the “Will Check Out” list. As an idiot with no sense of self-preservation so did Ben-to. Here’s hoping for a few nice surprises. Fall 2011 couldn’t be any worse than Summer 2011, could it? Could it? Kami-sama help us all. |

Because my font color is identical to our link color I couldn’t link from the article. Here you go, beloved readers.
Mirai Nikki
Coppelion
Persona 4: The Animation
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
Also, a link to the Fall 2011 Chart for the curious.
Ika Musume starts in less than a week!
Uh-oh. Three of your four potential failures I have somewhat high on my list. Oops! And Fate/Zero is not on my list!
I only say failures because I always think they’re going to be terrific!
