Run draws zebra

Z-Channel.

I can’t remember a funnier gag filled episode of A-Channel. I’m not really trying to remember, but that doesn’t stop this week from being very amusing. There have been times when Run’s air-head qualities don’t always bring laughs, and instead just make her really annoying. That’s not the case this week.

Run gives squirrel thing to Nagi

The wtf Squirrel featured in Episode 9 of A-Channel.

The seasons are passing incredibly quick in A-Channel. With the winter preview of next week, it’s apparent we’ll see a whole year pass before our eyes. What a well-rounded school year needs (in anime), are of course, the holidays. While not actually celebrating Halloween with a bang, the girls decide to get together and eat some sweet stuff.

Early in the episode Nagi finds a disgusting patchwork stuffed animal on her desk–soulfully glaring eyes, distinctive mouth gaping–funny. Equally amusing was Run’s drawing later in the episode. Later, on the way to Run’s house for sweet time, Nagi and Tooru meet at the market district for some shopping. So yeah, Tooru dresses like Frankenstein, the little kid, from Big Daddy. However strange she looks, the people from the markets give her tons of free shit. At  a bookstore they find a eroge with a character that looks exactly like Yuuko.

Run and Yuuko make hot cakes pancakes

She just Rooned herself.

Meanwhile at Run’s, she and Yuuko begin making some hotcakes, or hotto cakee as it were. Some gags follow. Whenever Run is alone with the girl(s) without Tooru, there always seems to be situation where they don’t quite know how to handle her. I have to admit I did chuckle when Run rooned Yuuko and the Run rooned herself. This leads to a well-timed bath scene.

Anyone else hoping this hallway would be a lot longer?

Yuuko-idol runs into Tooru and Nagi, now back from the market, and they accost her with their perverted manga; I was kind of hoping they’d show some of it. Although Toorunagi brought sweets back, Yuuko-doll decides to seize the moment and make some hotto cakee–from scratch. Anyone catch the song lyrics? While not as bad as the one in E04 it made me wonder aloud, “who writes these funky A-Channel songs?”, lol. Crazy love cakes!!

A-Thoughts:

Not many additional thoughts as the episode was fairly straight forward. The gags seemed to work a little better than normal, or at least seemed like it to me. For example, the zebra thing was already kind of amusing, but then to see it animated, followed by Tooru’s immediately recognizing it, was chuckle worthy.

Run herself being the focal point of the series, has been somewhat hit or miss. It might be just me, but if they had made her more endearing and lovable, I could have found myself enjoying the show a lot more. Although good in this week’s show, I have found her mostly annoying. One-part cute, Three-parts annoying. Nagi, Tooru and mai waifu Yuuko have been a lot more enjoyable.

I did think however, that it was nice to have an episode where the concentration was on the four main characters. This in nice contrast to the previous episode which seemed to circumnavigate the entire A-Channel world. Anyone else ready for this show to end? Not because it’s bad, but in the way where a season is coming to an end and a new season is starting, and you just want to move on already?

The squirrel looks like it would play Barry White if you squeezed its belly.
